New £20 note

Today we apparently get a new £20 pound note (link). It will carry the image of Adam Smith.

Bank of England notes each carry the image of a historical character, someone thought to be someone important. The current £5 note is Elizabeth Fry, a prison reformer. Previous to that it was George Stephenson. Likewise the tenner note displays the image of Charles Darwin, previously it was Charles Dickens. The old £20 note was Edward Elgar, who will now be phased out.

And Adam Smith, well, if ever there was a man who deserved to be on a banknote, surely it is he.
